How to play Sweepmark
Sweepmark is a plan-and-execute tactical game about one operator clearing one compound. This guide covers the full loop, how shooting works, and how ranks are earned.
What is Sweepmark?
Sweepmark is a free, browser-based tactical game — no download, no account, no sign-up. You command a single operator breaching a top-down compound held by a handful of hostiles. It is a game of planning rather than reflexes: there is no twitch aiming and no random dice, so a clean run is a puzzle you can genuinely solve. It is built for anyone who enjoys turn-based tactics and top-down strategy and wants a quick, satisfying session in a single tab.
How to play, step by step
Each round has three beats:
- Move. Drag your operator to a highlighted tile, or tap a tile within reach. A dashed path shows the route. You can also tap your operator to hold position.
- Aim. Tap any tile to cover it with a shot. An aim line appears; it turns green when the shot will connect and turns red when a wall, cover or door blocks the line. Tap the same tile again to hold fire.
- Execute. Press Execute and both you and every hostile carry out your plans at the same time, in a short replay. Tracers cross, and any hostile you caught in a clear line is neutralized.
Repeat until every hostile is neutralized and the compound is secured. Your operator has three health; take three hits and the mission fails, so positioning matters as much as shooting.
How shooting and cover work
Whether a shot connects is decided entirely by geometry. A shot lands only when the target is in range and nothing opaque — a wall, a cover block or a closed door — sits between the shooter and the target. Every hostile also holds a fixed facing cone: it can only fire on you when you are inside that cone and in its line of sight. Because the rules are deterministic, the same plan always produces the same result, which is what makes a perfect run repeatable and a shared challenge fair.
How ranks work
Clearing the compound always earns at least a C. Better play earns better ranks, up to the S-rank, which requires three things together: clearing in par rounds or fewer, hitting every shot you take, and finishing with zero damage. A and B ranks reward fewer rounds and higher accuracy with a little more forgiveness. Your best rank, fewest rounds and clear streak are saved locally on your device.
Tips
- Plan your move to end outside every hostile cone — if you are not in a cone, you cannot be shot that round.
- Keep a wall or cover tile between you and any arc you have not cleared yet.
- Aim a step ahead of a moving hostile; it advances toward your last-seen position.
- Only take a shot when the aim line is green — a miss ruins your accuracy and your S-rank hopes.
- Holding fire to reposition is often the smarter play; a wasted round still costs rank.
- Learn one compound variation, then race your own fewest-rounds record.
FAQ
Is it free? Yes, completely free and supported by unobtrusive ads.
Do I need an account? No. There is no sign-up and no login. Your bests are stored only in your browser.
Does it work on my phone? Yes — it is designed mobile-first and plays with taps and drags on any modern browser.
Is there luck involved? No. Shots are decided by line of sight and geometry, so outcomes are fully deterministic.
Can I share a run? Yes. Sharing a result includes a link that opens the exact same compound so a friend can try to beat your line.
